The irony of what Bush actually said

A London Times article: "President Bush’s uncomplicated view of world events was laid bare yesterday...."
 
That article omits, and all the transcripts omit, and even the account at Expose The Left omits (though they have the video where you can HEAR it) a word, replaces it with "thing." Bush didn't just say:
 
"You see, the thing is, what they need to do is to get Syria to get Hezbollah to stop doing this s--- and it’s over."
 
Instead, Bush said:
 
"You see, the irony is, what they need to do is to get Syria to get Hezbollah to stop doing this s--- and it's over."

Bush is saying that a lot of complicated efforts are misdirected. The irony, I guess, that the shortest path to ending the problem is a path that many people don't want to take.
